Evita is the managing editor of Evolving Wellness, which provides up-to-date scientific research, along with thousand-year old trusted wisdom of the holistic approach to health and wellness.
She is a nutritional science expert and her teaching and writing focus on natural, wholesome, plant-based and organic nutrition to achieve optimal health and longevity.
I asked Evita about her top three food “musts” when it comes to achieving and maintaining optimal wellness. Here is what she said:
“My top three ‘musts’ when it comes to good, not even optimal health, are as follows:
“1.) Our bodies require the right fuel and nutrients, not simply food. There are so many things called ‘food’ out there today, but few that are worthy of keeping us healthy, vibrant, energized, and at our best, or providing the ability to grow new tissues and repair damaged ones, protect our systems from invaders and ensure optimal organ function. Over 75% of what is in a local grocery store is meant to fill us up and keep us ‘alive,’ but nowhere near an optimal wellness level.
“Too many of us are starved for nutrients. Our health shows this, our energy levels show this and our rate of aging shows this. So I always encourage people to learn about the delicate connection between the food substances they put into their system, and the state of their health.
“2.) Aside from nutrients, there is a critical substance which far too many of us get too little of, and of the right quality, and that is water. We waste so much of our money, resources and our calories on beverages that are nothing more than ‘liquid sugar’ or ‘chemical soups.’
“Water sustains all life. We are over 70% water and water is required for almost every single chemical reaction in our bodies (of which there are thousands). It is the most powerful detoxifier, solvent and lubricant for our bodies.
“So when it comes to water, I encourage people to make it their drink of choice, and for it to come from natural, local springs as much as possible, as opposed to bottled or tap sources.
“3.) The last ‘must’ when it comes to optimal wellness is movement. Whether we call it physical activity or exercise, we cannot get away from it, and we need it daily.
“Today, we are the most sedentary civilization that has ever lived and it is showing in our weight and health issues. Our bodies were meant to move, and we cannot have optimal wellness without taking this into serious consideration. It does not have to be anything fancy like spending hours at the gym, we just have to get on out there and enjoy life through movement. Whether it is walking, or biking or chopping wood, or swimming, or lifting weights, or mountain climbing, or yoga – some form of physical, regular and varied movement is required for optimal wellness.”
Evita will be speaking both days of the show, as well as offering nutrition counseling to those interested in learning more about optimal wellness.
